Behind the Work
Summer 2020 was full of brands saying something about racial justice, and a lot of it felt like it was only to stay relevant or avoid backlash. I was more interested in organizations that could draw a real line between their mission and the issue. For an environmental nonprofit, that line came down to one question: who ends up living next to highways, power plants, and polluted water, and how often is that by design? So I pitched CLF an organic social series built around that question. Researching, writing, and designing each post meant making a serious subject easy to share without flattening it. The goal was to inform without lecturing, and to point people toward the work CLF was doing every day. Tone mattered as much as accuracy, so I thought a lot about the framing and went through several drafts. The series became the starting point for a blog post I pitched toward the end of my internship, which later grew into a five-part series.
